McCall's 5651 view I: The Slip

This one has been on my "to-sew" list for a long time!

It's McCall's 5651 view I, a slip.

I wasn't sure how this would turn out, but I think it's cute!

The ruffled elastic and bow were from Pacific Trimming in NYC.  The elastic was purchased during PR weekend in May, and the bow was purchased during Male Pattern Boldness Day in August.

The fabric is a deliciously soft  knit from Haberman Fabrics in Royal Oak, Michigan, purchased in Sept on my trip to the American Sewing Expo.

It sewed up relatively quickly, within a few hours, and came out better than I expected!

I didn't cut the slit into the slip as there is plenty of walking room already. I also didn't add the elastic under the bust as it doesn't need it. There is no support in this garment, but I think that's pretty typical for this kind of a slip. The cups are a little big for me as you can see on my dressform, but I'm not going back and fixing it.
I sewed this up at the end of Thanksgiving weekend, after the jeans but before my cords. A perfect in-between big-projects kind of project!
I wanted to write this up now, before the big "end of year recap post" that will go up before Jan 1.
Be well!

  1. I love this, Kyle! Could be a nice nightgown, too. This pattern is very timely for me... I have a nightgown in a similar style and Mark just asked me to make something similar as a black dress to wear out. I'll make it a little less revealing, of course. LOL.

  4. You'll feel so feminine in your slip. And you'll have a little secret under your dress. You did a very nice job.
