argyle dress concept part 2: peter pan collar or no?

Thanks for the comments already on my argyle concept dress from last night.
Here's a new idea I have:  how about a peter pan collar?
What do you think?  yea or nay?

argyle dress concept: another option?
Or is it better like this:

I probably won't get to work on this again til tonight, when I really should be cooking.  Maybe I can do a bit of both.
So please let me know in the comments, yea or nay to peter pan collar!

Be well and enjoy your Sunday!

  1. Yes!! The collar is perfect! I love it!

I have the same problem with dysfunctional fabric. I'm glad you've rescued this piece. It's really fun.

  3. I love the collar. It makes the dress.

  4. The collar is very cute, but it gives the dress a totally different feel than without. With collar: cute/retro. Finishing the neck with brown binding: modern/mature. I like both options. I'm not very much help am I?

  5. Go with the collar - too cute!

  6. Hmm...I'm on the fence. I like the collar, but then I don't like it. I'm not much help either. How will you accessorize the dress?

  9. I don't care for the collar. I thought it was a rare miss until I scrolled down and saw the dress without the collar and thought it was quite cute.

(Sorry- typo in the first post)

  10. I also like the collar, it lifts the dress a level.

  11. I think you've had a nice save here with the argyle fabric. I personally would not vote for the collar. To me, it takes the dress into overly cute territory. Whereas without the collar, the dress looks sleek and refined. The colors in the fabric make me lean more to the "serious" side. However, if this was done in bright summer colors, I'd probably go for the collar. I guess it all comes down to what type of style you'd like to achieve with the dress.

  12. I vote no. It looks really twee with the collar AND the argyle fabric. I do like a peter pan collar, but think you should do it on a solid color dress.

  13. I agree with those that say that you should decide what look/feel you want. The collar makes it a younger look, without more sophisticated.

  14. I am not a fan of the collar, either. In fact, in reading the comments, I am curious to see what you decide!

  15. No collar. It makes the dress look too cutesy.

  16. I love the collar! it frames you face and finishes it. So peter pan - yea! g

  17. I really like the collar and how it ties the solid with the argyle in two places.

  18. I like the idea of a collar but not a peter pan collar. Do you have enough fabric for a lower cowl style collar?

  19. Not sure if you're still taking comments on your collar...

But the latest issue of Sew News (Apr/May) had an article on switching around 3 different collars including one called a Sailor's Collar. It's a mix of a typical pointed collar and the Peter Pan one. It might work too.

This same issue also had a picture of a shopper tote that used an argyle much like yours!
