Simplicity 1609: buttons or no buttons??

It's coming along!
I embroidered my name into the facing tonight and tacked down all facings.  Also blind hemmed it and pressed.
Simplicity 1609 buttons or no buttons?
Should I add buttons or not???
The view I'm making calls for buttons, but I might leave them off??

What do you think?
Be well!

  1. Hi Kylie.
I would add the buttons. And they could be the same colour or a contrasting colour. But that's just my preference.

  4. I don't know. I think I"m the dissenter here. I think the buttons will send this into the juvenilia category if added.

  5. I'm with SEWN, but for a different reason. If you add buttons, I'd make them fabric-covered or else they seem to come out of nowhere. If you had a contrast collar, then buttons in that color would be neat and not juvenile. You can always sew them on in any color you want and see how it looks.

  6. Kyle, this is really a great dress! I would NOT add buttons, as I think it is a detail which will look too young, and also too vintage. The collar is enough. If you made the dress again in a playful color or print, then buttons would be great.

  7. I looked at your dress this morning before work and then after work.

No buttons is my vote. I'm with Mary here.

  8. My vote is for buttons because I LOVE the look of contrasting buttons in the center front of a retro style dress.

  9. Unless you have jewelry - brooch or necklace - that would fall in that space, I would add buttons.

  10. Love the way it looks now. Leave the buttons off!

  11. Another vote for no buttons for the same reasons others have said -- it would turn a classic dress into something much more juvenile looking. Without, you can wear pearls or something more casual. With them, well, you're just stuck with the buttons. Love the dress and your blog!

  12. This is going to be so cute! Hard to say about the buttons without seeing what you are considering -- for me, I guess it depends on the buttons.
