Simplicity 3742: If Only I Cut the Right Size

I've been working with knits SO MUCH. Today's dress is a woven.
However, when I chose the size for cutting last weekend, I was treating this fabric as if it were a knit and chose a size only an inch over my bust measurement.
That's fine for knits, bad for wovens.

The point of this dress is to have the gathers above and under the bust. But when there's only an inch of room left, there's not much to gather. My bust looks like it's fighting to get out of the dress, which, I assure you, is a first.

I didn't even iron this; but I finished it.

This is to show why I like topstitching ties; it makes them lie flat!

I bet it would have been perfect in a straight 12 (I started with 8 grading to 14; wound up taking in the skirt to a 12).

SIGH! Well, they can't all be winners.

  1. Looks great, all it needs is some pressing. Thanks for sharing.
